The WiseLifelab research group of the Department of Economic and Social Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics of UNiTo participated in the Hackathon Eu Versus Virus (https://euvsvirus.org/ ), an initiative supported by the European Parliament, the Committee of Regions and the European Economic and Social Committee, aimed at collecting projects to tackle the challenges deriving from the Covid-19 crisis.
The WiseLifeLab applied with two projects, both competing within the domain Digital Finance. The first one named “Co3 Crowdfunding as Wise Commoning” competed for the challenge Enable crowd to help financially. This project, which directly involves the CO3 consortium, is focused on the implementation of crowdfunding initiatives for the current healthcare and socioeconomic crisis and post-crisis.
The second one named “A Peer to Peer solution for health insurance” was competing for the challenge Availability of emergency health Insurance; it concerns the implementation of blockchain technology via the webapp Commonshood to create a peer-to-peer solution for the insurtech, which is aimed at overcoming the shortfalls of the industry with respect to health-related emergencies. The Commonshood web-app (www.commonshood.eu), developed by the Department of Computer Sciences of the University of Turin, is considered as a potential platform for the implementation of both projects.
Thousands of people were involved in the event from all over Europe, over 2000 projects have been submitted. On 29th April, researchers were notified that the second project was selected as a finalist. Congratulations!
