XVIII Biennial IASC Conference “Our Commons Future” in Tempe, Arizona, the USA

The International Association for the Study of the Commons (IASC), Arizona State University and University of Arizona are honored to host and invite you to the 18th global IASC conference in Tempe, Arizona, USA in 2021

The aim of the conference is to bring together researchers, practitioners, and policy makers for the purpose of improving governance and management, advancing understanding, and creating sustainable solutions for commons, common-pool resources, or any other form of shared resources. We will especially focus on the increasing diversity of domains where concepts of commons are applied.

CONTEXT

We live in unprecedented times. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, it is unclear as of September 2020 what is possible for organizing a conference of 800+ persons in October 2021. The pandemic, travel constraints, visa restrictions, and the economic crisis create many uncertainties, and, inevitably, we can not plan an ordinary biennial conference.
We have not given up on an in-person meeting in October 2021, but we do not want to put all eggs in one basket. We want to use this challenging situation as an opportunity to create a new kind of global biennial IASC conference. We plan to have nine topical virtual conferences between February and September. Those smaller online events will allow the global community to come together in inclusive low carbon events. We keep the planned in-person conference on the agenda for October 11 to 15, 2021. In this continuously evolving situation, we will decide whether we can hold an in-person conference in the Spring of 2021.
